MEET NAVA!
Nava has been a dancer since the age of two, with a focus on ballet and jazz.  Throughout her teenage years in Pennsylvania she chose to focus on other sports and was unable to continue dancing, however, her love of dance never dwindled.  She has recently experienced her first taste of bellydancing and tribal fusion and has enjoyed dancing with NDC since the winter of 2008.  Nava's love for dance, art and expression is truly evident on and off the stage.

MEET ZAHIR

Dancing has always been a part of his life, one way or another.  First love may have come from his Latin upbringing and heritage.  In Venezuela he learned how to Cumbia, Salsa, Merenge and do other local rhythms at an early age.  This started the foundation of his love affair with dance in general.  He joined NDC in April of 2006 after a persistent friend suggested it.  From then on, it has been an exhilarating experience being part of the NDC performing troupe, under the tutelage and direction of Nadirah.  Furthermore, his curiosity with bellydance has hed hinm to explore his passion for the art form by taking classes with some of the most world-renowned master teachers such as: Rachel Brice, Bozenka, Yousry, and Nourhan Sharif, Ava Fleming, Sadie, Unmata, Karim Nagi and others.  He truly is at home dancing and performing in front of audiences.  He most recently added Zumba to his list of credits and performed in front of thousands at the Bobcats Arena for a halftime show. AWESOME!

MEET NORIA

For as long as she can remember she has been in love with art and dance.  From the colored pencils that she used with immeasurable love to the Latin dances that her first teachers (her father and her brother) taught her through Venezuelan and international folk dancing and the magic of ballet.  The shimmering enchantment of the moview of the Middle East and the passionate dancing of flamenco, all left her with stars in her eyes.  She took her first bellydancing class in Tallahassee, Fla, and continued them in Salisbury four years ago with Nadirah of NDC. With NDC she has enjoyed bellydancing tremendously and it has taken her dancing to other levels.  She has taken different workshops in different parts of the country with different master teachers like: Ava Fleming, Yousry and Nourhan Sharif, Bozenka, Sadie, Karim Nagi, Unmata, Rachel Brice and others.  She most recently journeyed to become a Zumba instructor and led in halftime entertainment at a Bobcats game in Charlotte.  A Superb moment....her enjoyment of movement becomes more ample as she avidly rejoice in the variety of the different experiences she encounters.  Her art (painting and sculpting) and her dance continue to be her passion!

MEET AKKBARR
And who could forget Akkbarr...our loveable emcee, who dons whatever silly costumes Nadirah Picks out for him, entertains the audiences between numbers, helps keep things moving and makes sure that you always have an enjoyable evening at our one of a kind shows....he keeps it light, keeps it simple, and rarely complains about having to hang with the harem.  He is the lowest paid member of the troupe (will work for food,...) but since Nadirah doesn't cook, sometimes he just doesn't get paid.....but he still hangs around, and for that, we are grateful.

MEET SHIFTY TELLY

Shifty Telly has performed musically for over a decade.  Since 2005 he has studied doumbek (a Middle Eastern hand drum) with local and international percussionists including Issam Houshan and Souhail Kaspar.  Formally trained as an educator, he offers workshops and private lessons in doumbek.  He is blissfully married to Shamara (yes, one of Nadirah's new student STARS)....His stage name is a pun on chiftetelli, a Middle-Eastern rhythm often used in belly dance music.
